Trigony Hotel Sustainability Policy
Food Suppliers and Recycling
Our food suppliers are carefully chosen for their environmental credentials as well as the quality of their produce. Some of our suppliers are organic as well, Like Loch Arthur Creamery. Others such as the Galloway Smoke house fish locally and sustainably and supply us with Local Game as
well.
Those that aren’t directly local or organic help us in our aim to reduce the amount of packaging and waste that is created as a by product of our business.
Our fruit and vegetable scraps go to some very handsome pigs locally that are very well cared for as you can see. We aim to compost the rest of our food waste as much as possible and have a small fruit, vegetable and herb garden that we use whenever possible to keep us supplied with ingredients for the kitchen and bar. We manage this organically too. Of the rest of our waste at the moment we recycle around 60%.
Energy and Electricity
A few years ago we were successful in replacing our three old oil boilers with a biomass boiler, this means that our heating and hot water are carbon neutral. We also did away with our coal fires at the same time, now 80% of the wood burned on our open fires or stoves is from our own grounds and the rest is sourced locally. Given our location solar is not an option for us at present, but given that we need to buy in electricity we use Ecotricity which at least ensures that all the cash we pay goes to creating a more sustainable future. Living in the countryside transport is a big issue. The Hotel has two electric car chargers for our guests. There is a small connection charge of £10 per evening charge to charge your car at Trigony, or if you need an overnight charge the cost is £20. If you would like to use the charging station during your stay, please do give us a wee bit of notice and we will reserve a charger for your stay.
Organic Spa Treatments
All of the treatments offered in the spa are organic and we are proud to work with ishga which is a brilliant Scottish company from the Isle of Lewis, their products are all seaweed based and their quality is excellent, earlier this year they achieved organic certification form the Soil Association which they are rightly proud of. All of the room toiletries used in the hotel are from ishga. The other treatments that we offer are from Pinks Boutique who also have beautiful quality organic products and they are a truly green company not only are they soil association certified organic they also campaign to raise awareness of green issues and educate consumers about what ingredients actually go into their beauty products. Moving forward we have plans to compost more of our food waste, recycle more and make more productive use of the copious amounts of rain water we have and continue to reduce our consumption of Electricity. We hope to see you soon at Trigony.
